Behind the strong start by Justin Verlander, the Tigers cruised to a 9-2 victory over the slumping Cleveland Indians. It looked apparent from the game that the Indians have indeed waved the white flag on this season. Justin Verlander gave up a two run homer in the first then did not give up a hit. Aquilino Lopez pitched the 8th and 9th inning.

Marcus Thames had a two run homer and Miguel Cabrera had two homers. Meanwhile, Gary Sheffield continued his torrid pace by going 0-4. Damn Mr. Leyland, when are you going to learn he is finished.

Tomorrow the Tigers look to sweep the short 2 game series as Eddie Bonine takes on Paul Byrd. If Bonine has a sub par performance look for him to be replaced in the rotation after the All Star break.

Thames flips a HR to RF. If he can do that more often with outside pitches he will be deadly.
