The Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays worked out a trade as the Winter meetings were coming to a close on Wednesday out in Las Vegas. The Tigers will be sending Matt Joyce down to Tampa in exchange for starting pitcher Edwin Jackson.

Jackson has great velocity on the ball but also lacks some command. The good thing is that Jackson is only 25 years old and has pitched the last couple of seasons in the major leagues so he will being a little bit of experience with him.

Joyce should get a crack at the starting lineup down in Tampa so I think it is a good trade for him as he would have been a fourth outfielder at best in the Tigers lineup.

The Detroit Tigers lost another series as they fell to the Oakland Athletics 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers lost two out of three against the A’s as it ended up being a very dissapointing series for the Tigers.

Armando Galarraga was terrible as he gave up eight hits and five runs in only four innings. He gave up two first inning solo home runs to Jack Cust and Ryan Sweeney and was bad the rest of the his four innings. Galarraga is now 12-6 on the year after taking the loss.

The tigers bullpen threw the ball pretty well as they tossed five scoreless innings. It’s too bad the offense couldn’t come out of the hole and score five or six runs however.

Both of the teams runs came in the sixth inning when second basemen Ryan Raburn singled to score Miguel Cabrera and Matt Joyce. That was all the offense for the tigers as they only had five hits the entire game.

The Detroit Tigers lost in the tenth inning to the Cleveland Indians on Monday night as Gary Glover gave up a solo home run to Franklin Guiterrez. What a terrible way to lose a close game that the Tigers had a good shot at winning.

Glover took the loss and is now 1-3 on the year. Tigers starting pitcher Armando Galarraga lasted seven innings as he gave up eight hits and three runs to get the no decision. Galarraga gave up two home runs (both solo shots to Grady Sizemore) in the game and also struck out four while walking three.

Marcus Thames and Edgar Renteria both hit solo home runs for the Tigers. The third Tigers run came in the seventh inning when Brandon Inge reached on an infield single Matt Joyce scored. The Tigers left 16 runners on base and if they would have just came up with one big hit, they would have won this game.

So are Tigers fans just ready for this season to get over with?

The Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 7-1 on Tuesday night as they beat the Royals for the second straight night.  The game was interrupted in the 7th inning by rain and both teams had to wait 2 hours and 19 minutes before they could play the final couple of innings.

Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez both led the team with two rbi each.  Polanco had a solo home run and then a rbi groundout to account for both of his rbi.  Ordonez had two rbi singles in the game for his rbi’s.  Miguel Cabrera, Matt Joyce, and Gary Sheffield all chipped in with one rbi each as well.

Kenny Rogers picked up the win and is now 8-6.  Rogers threw six innings while only giving up four hits and one run.  It was a very good start for Rogers who pitched a great game.  Fernando Rodney pitched two innings after Rogers left the game and struckout four batters while only giving up one hit.  Joel Zumaya pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish off the Royals.

The Tigers will now go for the three game sweep Wednesday afternoon.  The players more then likely will be a little tired as they will have a short turnaround.  If they can pull off the sweep, it will be the teams fourth straight win!

The Detroit Tigers used a big 10 run spot in the eighth inning as the exploded to beat the Kansas City Royals by the score of 19-4.  Let’s all hope the Tigers didn’t use up all their offense on Monday evening as they still have two more games against the Royals in Kansas City.  However, scoring 19 runs is huge for the team!

Miguel Cabrera led the team with six rbi while Matt Joyce was right behind him with five rbi.  Gary Sheffield had three rbi, Carlos Guillen two rbi, and Ivan Rodriguez chipped in with one rbi each.  Sheffield had a three run home run and Joyce had a two run shot in the game.

Starting pitcher Zach Miner tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win and improve to 4-3 on the season.  Freddy Dolsi did have some problems in the seventh inning as he allowed four hits and four runs to score.  Aquilino Lopez tossed the final two innings of the game without allowing a run to score.  So besides the four run eighth inning, the Tigers pitchers did a pretty good job.

Kenny Rogers will take the mound for the Tigers on Tuesday night as they hope to go up 2-0 in the three game series.  Tigers Blog

The Detroit Tiges lost the first game of a four game series to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon 7-6 in 11 innings of action.  Tigers reliever Freddy Dolsi gave up a solo home run in the 11th inning to Justin Morneau and that was the knockout punch in the game.  The Tigers did have the tying run at second base in the bottom of the inning but was unable to get the run to extend the game.

Dolsi took the loss and is now 1-3 on the year.   It was just a bad pitch by Dolsi and he took the punishment which was the loss.  Kenny Rogers had started the game for the Tigers and pitched the first seven innings of the game.  Rogers left the game after giving up nine hits and three runs.  Once Rogers left the game, Fernando Rodney gave up a run while Todd Jones let two more runs score.  Jones let both runs score in the ninth inning when the Tigers blew the save.

Ramon Santiago led the Tigers at the plate with two rbi but was followed by Curtis Granderson, Placido Palanco, Jeff Larish, and Matt Joyce who all had one rbi each.  Joyce’s rbi game via the long ball as he went deep in the fourth inning.

The Tigers will try to even the series up on Friday when they will send Armando Galarraga to the mound.

The Detroit Tigers scored four unanswered runs and beat the Minnesota Twins by the score of 5-4 on Monday night.  The Tigers scored two runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth inning to come from behind and steal the victory.  Nice come from behind win for the Tigers over a very hot Twins team that had been playing some very good baseball the past few weeks.

Placido Polanco and Carlos Guillen both had rbi singles in the seventh inning and then pitch hitter Matt Joyce had a rbi triple and Curtis Granderson had a rbi single in the eighth inning as the Twins completed their come back.

Armando Galarraga pitched the first six innings of the game and gave up nine hits and four runs. Only three of the four runs were earned.  Galarraga struck out three batters and only walked one to get to the no decision in the game.  Casey Fossum pitched 1 1/3 innings to get the win and improve his record to 1-0.  Joel Zumaya pitched the final five outs of the game to record his first save of the season.  Zumaya did have runners on first and second with one out in the ninth inning but was able to get out of the jam.

Overall it was a good come from behind win for the Tigers.  They will now try to go up 2-0 as they play again on Tuesday night.

The Detroit Tigers completed a three game sweep of the Seattle Mariners with a 9-2 victory on Thursday afternoon in Detroit.  That was a good series for the Tigers and hopefully it will give them some momentum and they can go on a nice long winning streak and continue to play good baseball.

Jeremy Bonderman improved to 3-4 on the season as he picked up the win for the Tigers.  Bonderman tossed six innings while giving up eight hits and two runs.  He also had two walks and two strike outs.

Freddy Dolsi pitched the final three innings of the game to record his first save of the season.  Dolsi did not give up a hit in his three innings of action as he did a very good job.

Matt Joyce and Brandon Inge both hit home runs in the game for the Tigers.  Joyce had a two run shot while Inge connected on a three run home run.  Inge finished the game with three rbi while Jouce and Magglio Ordonez both had two rbi.  Edgar Renteria and Miguel Cabrera both chipped in with an rbi each as well.

Good with for the Tigers and now they will start a series with the Twins on Friday.  Tigers Blog

The Detroit Tigers scored two runs early in the game but then were not able to push across another run in the game as they went onto lose to the Kansas City Royals by the score of 3-2.  The Tigers were much more less dead after the second inning and that allowed the Royals to come back and win the game.

Starting pitcher Nate Robinson three seven innings and allowed ten hits and two runs.  He took the no decision from the game as Francisco Cruceta took the loss after allowing a run in the eighth inning on a infield single.

The Tigers got rbi’s from Carlos Guillen and Matt Joyce in the game.  Guillen had a rbi single in the first inning and then Joyce had a solo home run in the second inning.

The Tigers continue to struggle this season.  I thought they would come out things and start winning games but it sure looks like I was wrong about that.  What do you think Tigers fans?  Are they going to turn things around before it is too late? Or is too late already?
