The Detroit Tigers used a big 10 run spot in the eighth inning as the exploded to beat the Kansas City Royals by the score of 19-4.  Let’s all hope the Tigers didn’t use up all their offense on Monday evening as they still have two more games against the Royals in Kansas City.  However, scoring 19 runs is huge for the team!

Miguel Cabrera led the team with six rbi while Matt Joyce was right behind him with five rbi.  Gary Sheffield had three rbi, Carlos Guillen two rbi, and Ivan Rodriguez chipped in with one rbi each.  Sheffield had a three run home run and Joyce had a two run shot in the game.

Starting pitcher Zach Miner tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win and improve to 4-3 on the season.  Freddy Dolsi did have some problems in the seventh inning as he allowed four hits and four runs to score.  Aquilino Lopez tossed the final two innings of the game without allowing a run to score.  So besides the four run eighth inning, the Tigers pitchers did a pretty good job.

Kenny Rogers will take the mound for the Tigers on Tuesday night as they hope to go up 2-0 in the three game series.  Tigers Blog

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night by the score of 6-4.  The two teams combined for 24 hits in the game bu it was the Twins coming out on top on the scoreboard to even up the series at one game each.

Nate Robinson was rocked in his four innings of action as he gave up 11 hits and six runs.  Robinson is now 6-7 on the season as he took the loss in the game.  Robinson was cruising along until the fourth inning when Craig Monroe hit a three run home run and then it was all down hill.

Zach Miner and Bobby Seay both tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Tigers.

Marcus Thames hit a two run home run to lead the Tigers at the plate with two rbi.  Gary Sheffield also had a rbi double that scored Carlos Guillen in the eighth inning.  It just wasn’t the Tigers night at the plate even though they had ten hits in the game.

The Detroit Tigers scored four unanswered runs and beat the Minnesota Twins by the score of 5-4 on Monday night.  The Tigers scored two runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth inning to come from behind and steal the victory.  Nice come from behind win for the Tigers over a very hot Twins team that had been playing some very good baseball the past few weeks.

Placido Polanco and Carlos Guillen both had rbi singles in the seventh inning and then pitch hitter Matt Joyce had a rbi triple and Curtis Granderson had a rbi single in the eighth inning as the Twins completed their come back.

Armando Galarraga pitched the first six innings of the game and gave up nine hits and four runs. Only three of the four runs were earned.  Galarraga struck out three batters and only walked one to get to the no decision in the game.  Casey Fossum pitched 1 1/3 innings to get the win and improve his record to 1-0.  Joel Zumaya pitched the final five outs of the game to record his first save of the season.  Zumaya did have runners on first and second with one out in the ninth inning but was able to get out of the jam.

Overall it was a good come from behind win for the Tigers.  They will now try to go up 2-0 as they play again on Tuesday night.

The Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals battled until the very end after sitting through a 2.5 hour rain delay.  Gary Sheffield delivered the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning as he singled to center and Clete Thomas scored the game winning run.  It was great to see the Tigers come back and score single runs in the final three innings as they never gave up in the game.

Carlos Guillen led the Tigers at the plate with a three run home run off Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse in the fourth inning.  Curtis Granderson, Magglio Ordonez, and Sheffield all finished the game with one rbi each.  The Tigers had chances to score more runs in the game but they left 20 runners stranded on the bases.

Todd Jones improved to 3-0 as he picked up the win after pitching the top of the ninth inning.  Tigers starting pitcher Armando Galarraga pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up eight hits and five runs.  Four of the five runs were earned for Galarraga.  Zach Miner and Joel Zumaya pitched the next three innings and they gave up a combined two runs and walked five batters.  Bobby Seay was finally able to get out of that mess by striking out the final batter in the top of the eighth inning.

The Tigers and Cardinals will now battle it out once again as they play the rubber match of the three game series this afternoon.  It will be a quick turn around for everyone so it will be interesting to see how they come out and play.  We could expect a sluggish came, and one where they players just want to get it over with.

Marcus Thames hit a home run in the fifth straight game and the Detroit Tigers defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-1 on Tuesday evening.  It took two runs in the eighth inning and two extra insurance runs in the ninth inning for the Tigers to finally pull away from the Giants.

Besides Thames going deep, Ryan Raburn also hit a pitch hit solo home run in the game.  Thames, Raburn, Placido Polanco, Carlos Guillen, and Jeff Larish all had one rbi each in the game for the Tigers.

Miguel Cabrera hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1.  With the game tied 1-1 in the ninth inning, Cabrera took White Sox reliever Octavio Dotel deep for the walk off shot.  Great hit by Cabrera who really stepped up for the Tigers.

Besides the home run from Cabrera, Carlos Guillen had the other rbi for the Tigers which came in the sixth inning.  In the sixth inning, Guillen singled in Edgar Renteria for the Tigers first run.

Tigers starting pitcher Kenny Rogers pitched the first eight innings and allowed four hits and one run.  Rogers pitched a very good game even though he got a no decision in the game.  Todd Jones who pitched the top half of the ninth inning picked up the win and is now 2-0.

Nothing changed for the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon as they lost to the Oakland Athletics once again.  This time it was by the score of 10-2 as the Tigers were out played and out matched in the game.  The Tigers dropped all three games and swere swept by the A’s in the series.

Nate Robertson fell to 3-6 on the season as he took the loss in the game.  Giving up eight hits, five runs, and three walks just didn’t get it done for Robertson who threw 6 1/3 innings.  The Tigers bullpen wasn’t any better however as they gave up another five runs in the game.

Freddy Dolsi got right back on the mound after last nights outing and gave up one run while only recording one out in the game.  Casey Fossum had the worst outing however as he gave up four runs without even recording an out!  Fossum, your old, you suck, please retire!  Aquilino Lopez pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and gave up three hits but zero runs.

Both of the Tigers runs came in the sixth inning as Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez both recorded an rbi.  Guillen had a rbi single that scored Ryan Raburn and Ordonez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Curtis Granderson.

The Tigers will have a much needed off day on Thursday and then will get back to playing baseball on Friday when they begin a series with the Clevleand Indians.
