Jhonny Peralta and Gerald Laird homered, and Max Scherzer became a 10-game winner for the first time as the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 on Thursday. Peralta hit a three-run drive and Laird added a two-run shot in Detroit's six-run fourth inning. It's the eighth time in eight road games that the Tigers have hit two or more home runs.

As good as Rick Porcello was on Tuesday night, Tigers manager Jim Leyland thinks he can do better. Porcello allowed two hits over seven shutout innings and Ryan Raburn homered to lead Detroit to its fifth straight win, 9-1 over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Porcello (6-11) retired the first 12 batters he faced before Billy Butler singled leading off the fifth inning.

The Detroit Tigers have recalled outfielder Casper Wells from their Toledo Triple A affiliate. The Tigers designated the contract of right-handed pitcher Enrique Gonzalez for assignment to make room for Wells on the roster. The moves were announced Monday before a home game against Kansas City. Wells batted .233 with 22 doubles, six triples, 21 home runs and 46 RBIs in 103 games in Toledo.

The Detroit Tigers have optioned reliever Robbie Weinhardt to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Alfredo Figaro from their top farm club. Weinhardt was 1-1 with a 9.17 ERA in 18 appearances this season — his first in the majors. On Thursday, he allowed three runs while only getting one out in an 11-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
