The person spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010,  because the deal, which is subject to a physical, had not yet been announced.

Victor Martinez will make $12 million next year in the first season of his $50 million, four-year contract with the Detroit Tigers. The catcher and designated hitter will receive $13 million each in 2012 and 2013, then earn $12 million in the final season, according to contract terms obtained by The Associated Press.

As Victor Martinez tried to decide where to play next season, one of his countrymen contacted him about the possibility of teaming up in Detroit. Now Martinez and Miguel Cabrera will form a powerful duo in the middle of the lineup for the Tigers. Detroit introduced Martinez on Friday after completing a four-year contract with the 31-year-old switch-hitter.
