The Detroit Tigers are opening up the check book for third basemen Miguel Cabrera as they have signed him to an eight-year $153 million dollar extension.  The new contract will keep Cabrera with the Tigers through the 2016 season.  That is if he doesn’t eat himself off the team lol… Cabrera needs to keep the weight off and I then I don’t have any problem with the contract.

The Detroit Tigers cut another nine players off of their Major League roster on Tuesday afternoon.  Two players were sent to Triple-A Toledo while seven players were re-assigned to minor league camp.

Virgil Vasquez and Brent Clevlen were the two players that were optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

Freddy Dolsi, Chris Lambert, Preston Larrison, Max St. Pierre, Nick Trzesniak, Michael Hollimon, and Scott Sizemore were re-assigned to the teams minor league camp.

Relief pitcher Matt Mantei who was trying to come back from surger to his pitching arm has decided to call it quits and retire from the game of baseball.  Mantei says he started to feel some bad feeling in his pitching shoulder and knew that he would never be the same type of pitcher.
